Raphael and Sara Ortiz are taking the Virginia ice cream scene by storm, serving up one delicious scoop after another at their first Bruster’s Real Ice Cream shop in Haymarket. This husband-and-wife team isn’t new to the food service industry, where they’ve both served in leadership roles at Five Guys. But their entrepreneurial spirit led them to explore franchise ownership, and after careful consideration, they fell in love with Bruster’s Real Ice Cream.

The Bruster’s Ice cream parlor in Provo is small and cozy. You simply walk up to the window to place your order. Then you sit at one of the outdoor tables to socialize and enjoy your ice cream choices. At Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, you’ll find an assortment of flavors, from simple classics to fancier ones. We had the double chocolate ice cream. It was creamy and delicious.

The Northern Shenandoah Valley’s first Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is opening in May. Construction began Feb. 12 at 180 Kernstown Commons Boulevard south of Winchester, according to Raphael Ortiz, owner and CEO of the new Bruster’s location. However, planning started in 2021. “Our team looks forward to becoming a part of this vibrant community and creating a welcoming spot for families and friends to enjoy sweet scoops together,” Ortiz said in a statement. “Get ready to experience the joy of Bruster’s as we open our doors just in time for summer.”

On Saturday, Bruster’s Ice Cream hosted a PJ Day event where customers who showed up in their pajamas received a free ice cream cone. Bruster’s also hosted a pajama drive for children with the help of the event partner Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA. Ice Cream Scooper Ashley Navarrette showed her support rocking her pajamas to work and is always excited about pajama day! “We really enjoy giving back to the community and helping people in need,” Navarrette said.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is now open in Richardson. The store serves various flavors of ice cream, shakes, sundaes and other specialty frozen treats. According to the company’s website, Bruster’s chain started in 1989 and has 150 ice cream flavor recipes in rotation across its nearly 200 locations.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is hosting a special Customer Appreciation Day/PJ Day festivity on Saturday, March 9, 2024, inviting customers to wear and/or donate new pajamas to Comfort Cases at participating locations across Philadelphia. Every person who does so gets a free small waffle cone.

A new ice cream shop is opening in Trussville. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream will open at 445 Main St. in the Winn Dixie-anchored Trussville Marketplace. Earlier this year, the company announced it would be opening nine new stores across the country, including the Trussville location.

Lauren Tucker was one of the first employees hired at the Bruster’s Real Ice Cream store in Dalton, Georgia when it first opened in 2012. She was just 17 years old and had no experience in ice cream, hospitality, or customer service. “It was my first job and has so far been my only job,” she proudly says today.

Sunday, July 16 is National Ice Cream Day and we’ve totally got chills about it. Yes, pun intended because it’s ice cream, after all, everyone’s favorite food right along with pizza and chocolate chip cookies. Honestly, what could be better than an entire day dedicated to the delicious frozen treat? Well, how about some sweet ice cream deals and promotions for starters? Now that we’ve got your attention, get ready for ice cream and savings, because we’ve rounded up a list of stores and restaurants offering specials in honor of National Ice Cream Day.

Anchors Jordan Wilkerson and David Benfield went on-site to Bruster’s Jacksonville to learn how to make ice cream, decorate some cakes, and learn about all things Bruster’s. Franchisee Kathy Devenny-Vollick and her daughter then appeared in-studio with a full ice cream bar.

Anchors Eugene Robinson and Mia Atkins spent the day at Bruster’s Matthews, exploring the variety of flavors and taking turns making sundaes for Bruster’s customers.

National Ice Cream Month started off hot in the metro Atlanta area. Shelly Rockmore and her son Joey represent Bruster’s of Grayson and Snellville. They stopped by Atlanta News First and brought some special, cold treats. The Rockmores showed off some of their favorite flavors including the flavor of the month Toffee Bar with Heath and Peanut Butter Cup Overload.  

It was a dream 30 years in the making. In the late 1980s, Joel Smart took his girlfriend, LeAnne, to his favorite ice cream shop and told her about his dream to one day open his own shop. One butter pecan cone later, LeAnne agreed. Together, his dream became their dream – and life went on.   

Campaign promises don’t always come to fruition, but Brandon Taub was determined not to be that kind of politician. Taub was so committed that he managed a surprise delivery of 130 milkshakes to his classmates this spring. The Severn School senior ran for sixth-grade class president in 2016 on a platform of being a good leader, listening to the people and obtaining a milkshake machine for the school.

Bruster’s Ice Cream is ready to roll up its window in Vienna. The latest franchise from the Pennsylvania-based ice cream company will open for business today (Thursday) at 237 Maple Avenue in Glyndon Plaza, a public relations representative confirmed to FFXnow. The new shop will operate daily from noon to 9 p.m., following the same hours as other Bruster’s locations, including the one in Fairfax City.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is saying “thank you” to fans with a free or discounted scoop of ice cream. This month, customers who dress in their pajamas will receive a small waffle cone for Customer Appreciation Day, a spokesperson for the Pennsylvania-based creamery confirmed to McClatchy News. Individual locations will offer the treat at a discount, or on the house.

The taste of Bruster’s chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream in a waffle cone was the crystallizing moment when Anna Wytiaz knew she was destined to open a Bruster’s  franchise location in her Florida community. “My dad is from Pittsburgh so my siblings and I always looked forward to going to Bruster’s when visiting family,” recalls Wytiaz. “But when my mom took one bite out of the chocolate raspberry truffle she said, ‘We need to open a store’.” That’s just what happened.

Hendersonville’s Paul and Nicole Fedorchek had a dream to own and operate an ice cream franchise together. They chose a brand that was central to their memories together, but not well-known in Middle Tennessee. Shortly after the couple secured the financing in August 2021 that would allow them to move forward with opening a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream on Anderson Lane North, Paul Fedorchek died from an illness related to COVID-19.

The ice cream truck operated by Bruster’s Ice Cream in Hopewell Township has been visiting events such as graduation parties and sporting events, giving folks the chance to enjoy a cool summertime treat. “Everybody is so happy all the time whenever an ice cream truck comes up,” said crew leader Meghan Parrish. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 was there in June when the truck arrived for an impromptu ice cream social in the township. “It’s just a wonderful way to get our neighborhood out and really make things a little special for the kids,” said neighbor Bethany Pistorius.  

Being from Pennsylvania, Tiffany Schlueter was no stranger to the homemade ice cream Bruster’s sold. When the opportunity arose for her and her husband, Ben Schlueter, to open up a shop in Fishers, they jumped at the chance. “I grew up in Pittsburgh and Bruster’s was the ice cream shop I went to, and I thought it was just a Pittsburg thing,” she says. The idea to open a store in Fishers started back in 2020 when the couple decided they wanted to give back to the community by opening a franchise. They did some research on top franchises to open and work for. That’s when they found Bruster’s.

Dr. Ramez Assad and Tiger Najjar were childhood friends who became business partners as adults. Most recently, the two have become successful franchisees with Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. They opened their first location in North Olmstead, Ohio (just west of Cleveland) last summer and have development rights to open five additional locations in the area. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is a Pittsburgh-based franchise brand that’s known as the home of 150 flavors of premium ice cream, yogurt, Italian ice, and sorbet that’s hand-crafted in each shop daily. Each of the brand’s more than 200 franchise locations offers at least two dozen fresh flavors available daily.

Those Watts are good people. As has apparently become tradition at the Pittsburgh Steelers’ facility, T.J. Watt handed out free ice cream courtesy of Bruster’s to members of the organization and media during the team’s final spring practice before breaking for the next seven weeks, not returning until the team reports for camp in late July.

Even though Anjelica Yee graduated from Humboldt State with a degree in Wildlife Conservation, she’s running an ice cream shop that her grandfather bought on a whim. Yee has worked in the restaurant industry since she was 16, so she makes an ideal GM for Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, which opened a couple months ago in Aptos.The signature ice cream made on-site daily is known for its rich and creamy texture. Also, the ice cream served is no more than six days old to ensure freshness.

New Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson wants to make one thing clear: He loves ice cream. “I’ve always just been a go-to vanilla guy,” he said during a News4JAX interview the day he was introduced as coach in February. “I am not a flashy [with] all these different flavors and colors and everything. I just want plain vanilla.” Quarterback Trevor Lawrence got the message before his new head coach was introduced. He tweeted a video on Feb. 4 showing Pederson’s sweet tooth for ice cream. Lawrence had a surprise for his coach the next day. He delivered ice cream ahead of the introductory press conference.

Chad McWreath said he looked at “many, many brands” when he was exploring franchise opportunities. “They were all wrong for me until I found Bruster’s Real Ice Cream,” said the 50-year-old Pittsburgh native. He’s had his first store, in the Squirrel Hill community of downtown Pittsburgh, open for about a year now and said his earnings in that first year were more than double what he expected. But he said there’s much more to the ROI with Bruster’s than just dollars. “You have to invest in something that you are passionate about or it’s just not going to work,” he said of becoming a Bruster’s franchisee. “You have to be emotionally invested in it.” McWreath believes that a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream franchisee is in the business of making people happy. “Ice cream makes people happy!”
