A national ice cream shop with 200 locations is planning to open its first in the St. Louis area. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, based in Pittsburgh, where it started 36 years ago, plans to enter the St. Louis market with a location in South County.

The company, which has nearly 300 stores, got its start there in 1989.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream opened its newest location on Sept. 16 in Bridgewater, not far from where the company’s story began in 1989. The new store, at 1515 Riverside Drive, has a more modern look, digital menu boards, an outdoor patio and the company’s first drive-thru in the greater Pittsburgh area, according to a press release.

Want a pup cup from Bruster’s? Just order their “Doggie Sundae.” It typically comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and is topped with a milk bone or a crunchy piece of waffle cone.

A new store coming to Shadyside will be opening soon. A representative for Bruster’s says they’re aiming for the end of September, but an exact date has not been announced. And, the original location in Bridgewater is getting a complete renovation.

A plan to build a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream store at the southwest corner of Pearl Road and Ellsworth Drive, about 1,200 feet south of Drake Road, has been reapproved by the Strongsville Planning Commission.

On the outside of her left arm, Victoria Wisley has a tattoo no bigger than the size of three quarters. Resting right above her watch band is a small, single scoop ice cream cone. When Wisley was 14, about two decades ago, she was searching for a job. Her great grandpa went to church with the assistant manager of an ice cream parlor just down the street from the neighborhood where her family lived. Wisley pulled into the shop for an application and now, with its season opening Friday, she has worked at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream for nearly 20 years. She was promoted to general manager about seven years ago.

If you’re looking for a new place to satisfy your sweet tooth in Lynchburg, you’re in luck. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream opened its doors Thursday for its first day of business in the Hill City.

A popular ice cream parlor is scheduled to open in the Summerville area next week. Bruster’s Ice Cream is set to open its doors on February 13th at 143 Berkeley Circle Unit 107 in Summerville. “Get ready to savor the freshest scoop in town,” said the parlor on its social media page. Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is set to expand its presence in Texas with a new location in Conroe, bringing its beloved hand-scooped ice cream, homemade waffle cones, and signature sundaes to 12891 Hwy 105 W. Franchisee Greg Martinez, a local entrepreneur, is leading the charge for this new outpost of the family-friendly chain.

In total, Bruster’s offers over 20 non-dairy ice cream flavors, which, like their dairy counterparts, are made in-house and therefore vary by location. You may find creative flavors along the lines of peach melba or white raspberry truffle, or something more familiar like vanilla or mint chocolate chip. No matter what flavor you choose, it will taste absolutely delicious, especially since the chain gave its non-dairy menu an oat milk makeover in 2022.

You could say Robert Alford made a sweet decision in 2015 when he acquired his first Bruster’s Real Ice Cream franchise. The seasoned entrepreneur in Bowling Green, Kentucky, said the move has proven to be one of the best choices of his career.

Partnering with multi-unit franchisees can be an attractive option for franchisors looking to grow. A deal is signed, a development schedule is followed and a market is built out — all with one trustworthy owner.  It’s not always that easy, though. Successful multi-unit growth requires a lot of preparation, and franchisors must be prepared to support the unique demands of multi-unit deals. Kim Ellis, vice president of franchise development at Bruster’s Real Ice Cream, shared what franchisors need to know.
